Shirley "Kay" Eck is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC#6105) in the state of Florida. She is a Certified Supervisor for counseling students and licensing interns in the state. Kay is also a Certified Human Behavior Consultant. She is married and has two grown daughters.
Prior to private practice Kay worked for 18 years at a large faith-based counseling center in Orlando. There she gained experience counseling a wide range of issues with a varied culture client base. Kay has also worked as a counselor for a teen residential program and a crisis pregnancy center.
Before moving to Florida, Kay and her husband owned a construction company where she was able to use her previous business experience and accounting skills. Over the years, the Ecks has served in various ministries at their local church which includes teaching, organizing VBS conferences, leading groups, and children's ministries
Teaching is one of Kay's passions. She loves to help people heal and grow. Kay has led multiple groups and classes on life skills and has worked as an adjunct college professor teaching psychology and counseling. In counseling, she combines her vast experience and knowledge base to offer clients a fresh and unique perspective on problem-solving.

Kay is interested in fitting various therapy models to the specific needs of her clients. She sees her clients from a holistic perspective and has studied various therapies that treat the whole person.

As a state-approved supervisor, Kay has a passion to not only supervise your work but will also train and equip you in the art of counseling. She is certified to supervise therapists who are pursuing a Licensed Mental Health Counselor license.
Licensing interns are required to do two years of post-master's supervised experience under the supervision of an approved licensed mental health supervisor. The supervision experience must consist of at least 1,500 hours of providing face-to-face psychotherapy to clients, which is to be completed in no less than 100 weeks.
The intern will have 1 hour of supervision every two weeks and at least 1 hour of supervision per 15 hours of psychotherapy. If the intern obtains group supervision, each hour of it must alternate with an hour of individual supervision. Individual supervision is defined as one supervisor supervising no more than two interns and group supervision is defined as one supervisor supervising more than two, but a maximum of six interns in a group.
Kay's current rates are:
$35 for one hour of group supervision
$70 for one hour of individual supervision

If you want to use your insurance, all office visits must be preapproved or preauthorized. Please be ready to give your insurance information at the time you make your appointment. Services may be covered in full or in part by your health insurance or employee benefit plan. Please check your coverage carefully by asking your carrier the following questions:
